Maafisa wa michezo wa zamani kushtakiwa kwa Sh330m zilizopotea wakati wa CHAN
ALIYEKUWA Katibu katika Wizara ya Michezo, Peter Kaberia, ni miongoni mwa maafisa 10 watakaofunguliwa mashtaka kutokana na madai ya kupotea kwa Sh330 milioni zilizokuwa zimetengwa kwa ajili ya Kombe la Afrika kwa Wachezaji wa Ndani (CHAN) la mwaka wa 2018. Ofisi ya Mkurugenzi wa Mashtaka ya Umma (ODPP) imethibitisha kuwa uamuzi wa kuwafungulia washukiwa hao mashtaka ulifikiwa baada ya uchunguzi uliofanywa na Tume ya Maadili na Kupambana na Ufisadi (EACC). Kwa mujibu wa ODPP, kuna ushahidi wa kutosha wa kuwafungulia mashtaka watu binafsi na kampuni zinazohusishwa na ununuzi usio wa kawaida na utovu wa nidhamu wa kifedha katika maandalizi ya mashindano hayo, ambayo hatimaye Kenya ilipoteza haki ya kuwa mwenyeji. Mashindano hayo yaliandaliwa na Morocco. "Baada ya kutathmini ushahidi kwa kina, Mkurugenzi wa Mashtaka ya Umma amebaini kuwa kuna msingi wa kutosha wa kuwafungulia washukiwa na kampuni zinazohusika mashtaka," ODPP ilisema katika taarifa. Watakaoshtakiwa pamoja na Balozi Kaberia ni pamoja na maafisa wakuu kutoka Wizara ya Michezo na wakurugenzi wa kampuni binafsi zinazodaiwa kunufaika kutokana na fedha hizo. Maafisa hao ni Stephen Njoroge Muthuma, Afisa Mkuu wa Fedha; Harun Chebet Komen, Mkurugenzi wa Utawala; Enock Ondwari Onditi na John Kiende Ruga. Wakurugenzi wa kampuni binafsi ni Marcos Gonzalez Puente wa Auditel Kenya, Samuel Mbaa Njoroge wa Taxwise Consulting Limited, Kitheka Muema wa Restea Enterprises Limited, Anthony Mwangi Kimanthi wa Lease Pride Limited, na Ephraim Kinyua Muchangi wa Leasepath Limited. Kampuni sita zinazokabiliwa na mashtaka ni Auditel Kenya, Taxwise Consulting Limited, Restea Enterprises Limited, Lease Pride Limited, Leasepath Limited na Liroma Assurance. Wanatarajiwa kujibu mashtaka yanayojumuisha matumizi mabaya ya mamlaka, ununuzi haramu wa mali ya umma, utovu wa nidhamu wa kifedha, na kushughulikia mapato ya uhalifu. Afisi ya DPP ilisisitiza dhamira yake ya kuhakikisha uwajibikaji katika usimamizi wa rasilimali za umma. "Ofisi ya Mkurugenzi wa Mashtaka ya Umma inathibitisha tena dhamira yake thabiti ya kuzingatia utawala wa sheria, kulinda rasilimali za umma, kuendeleza uadilifu, na kuhakikisha uwajibikaji katika usimamizi wa masuala ya umma," taarifa hiyo iliongeza. Wakati huo huo, aliyekuwa rais wa Shirikisho la Soka Kenya (FKF), Nick Mwendwa, ambaye pia alikuwa akichunguzwa kuhusiana na fedha za CHAN, ameondolewa katika tuhuma za makosa yoyote.
