LUSAKA, Zambia: RAIS wa Zambia Hakainde Hichilema alishinda uchaguzi wa urais na kuwahi muhula wa pili wa miaka mitano, kulingana na matokeo ya Tume ya Uchaguzi ya Zambia. Uchaguzi huo uligubikwa na madai ya wizi wa kura na visa vya udanganyifu. Matokeo yaliyotangazwa mapema Jumanne yalionyesha Hichilema alipata asilimia 61.4 ya kura, dhidi ya asilimia 38 za mpinzani wake mkuu, Brian Mundubile. "Kwa hivyo ninamtangaza Hichilema Hakainde kuwa Rais mteule wa Jamhuri ya Zambia leo Agosti 18, 2026," akasema Mwenyekiti wa Tume ya Uchaguzi Mwangala Zaloumis. Uchaguzi huo ulikuwa wa saba kwa Hichilema kuwania urais, huku ukiwa wa kwanza kwa Mundubile. Baada ya ushindi wake kutangazwa, mamia ya wafuasi wake walijumuika Lusaka wakiwa wamevalia rangi nyekundu za chama chake cha United Party for National Development (UPND), wakishangilia, kuimba, kucheza na kulipua fataki. Hichilema, 64, alisema alikuwa nimeguswa sana na imani raia walimwekea ili aendelee kuongoza. Pia aliwatumia ujumbe waliomuunga mkono wapinzani wake akisema, "Tumewasikia, na tutaendelea kuwafanyia kazi." Mundubile, kiongozi wa upinzani, hakutoa taarifa mara moja kuhusu matokeo hayo. Mvutano ulikuwa umeongezeka Zambia kuelekea uchaguzi huo wa Agosti 13, licha ya kampeni kuwa tulivu. Mundubile alisema alipokea taarifa kuhusu uwezekano wa kubadilishwa kwa fomu za matokeo kutoka vituoni na kutaka uchunguzi huru tena haraka. Kambi ya Hichilema ilikanusha madai hayo. Waangalizi wa kimataifa, akiwemo Umoja wa Ulaya, walisema uchaguzi ulikuwa wa amani kwa kiasi kikubwa, lakini wakaonya kuwa ulifanyika katika mazingira yaliyozima uhuru wa kimsingi. Kura milioni tano zilipigwa katika uchaguzi huo. Zambia, yenye wakazi milioni 22 na ikiwa mzalishaji wa pili kwa ukubwa wa shaba Afrika, ina historia ya mabadiliko ya uongozi kwa amani kupitia uchaguzi. Tangu mfumo wa vyama vingi kurejeshwa 1991, mabadiliko katika uchaguzi wa wanaoshikilia afisi za rais yamefanyika kupitia uchaguzi.
