Kitengela, ambayo imekuwa makazi ya maelfu ya wageni kutoka Burundi, Congo, Rwanda na Uganda, ilishuhudia biashara nyingi zinazomilikiwa na wageni zikifungwa kwa muda baada ya tangazo hilo. Wageni wengi hushughulika na biashara za vyakula, saluni, ushonaji na huduma za bodaboda. Hali kama hiyo imeshuhudiwa Nakuru ambako wafanyabiashara wengi wa kigeni wanakiri kuwa wameathiriwa kiuchumi. Iradukunda Samson, mwenye umri wa miaka 21 kutoka Burundi, amekuwa akiuza vibanzi mitaani kwa miaka mitatu. Mapato yake humwezesha kulipa kodi ya nyumba, kujikimu na kusaidia familia yake nyumbani. Alisema hofu ya kushambuliwa imewafanya baadhi ya wageni kuacha kazi huku wengine wakirejea nchini mwao. "Tuko tayari kupata vibali vinavyohitajika, lakini tunaogopa kutoka nje kwenda kufanya biashara," alisema. Katika mtaa wa Bondeni, Nakuru, Uragiwenimama Jeondodieu anayefahamika kama John, huendesha kibanda pamoja na mke wake Mkenya. Alisema wageni wengi wameishi kwa amani na wenyeji kwa miaka mingi na wanapaswa kupewa nafasi ya kurekebisha stakabadhi zao badala ya kuonekana kama wahalifu. Wakati huo huo, serikali ya Burundi imeitaka Kenya kuhakikisha usalama wa raia wak na maafisa wa serikali ya Kenya wamewahakikishia wageni usalama wao huku wakiwataka kutumia muda wa siku 90 kutafuta vibali na hati zinazohitajika.
