Nyumba ya wazazi wake katika kijiji cha Kogelo Agoro, Kaunti ya Homa Bay, imeharibika vibaya. Shemeji yake, Ascar Adhiambo, alisema walikuwa wamepanga kuanza ujenzi Agosti mwaka huu. "Tulikuwa tayari tumepanga mahali ambapo angejenga nyumba yake," alisema. Ouma alipoteza wazazi wake akiwa Darasa la Pili na kulelewa na mjomba wake hadi alipomaliza shule ya msingi. Baadaye alihamia Nairobi kutafuta ajira lakini, kutokana na ukosefu wa vyeti vya juu vya masomo, alijipatia riziki kama mhamasishaji wa vijana katika mikutano ya viongozi wa kisiasa. Mapema mwaka huu alimshawishi Bi Adhiambo kuacha kazi yake ya ususi Nairobi na kurejea kijijini ili awe msimamizi wa mipango yake ya kujenga upya boma la familia. "Aliahidi kugharamia masomo ya watoto wangu wanne. Nilirejea kijijini nikafungua saluni huku nikisubiri kuhamia nyumbani kwa wakwe zangu baada ya nyumba kujengwa," alisema. Sasa familia imeachwa katika sintofahamu. Mjomba wake Jonathan Otieno alisema walikuwa wanamtegemea Ouma kubadilisha maisha yao lakini ndoto hiyo imezimika. Familia pia inasema haina uwezo wa kugharamia mazishi na imeomba serikali kubeba gharama zote kutokana na mazingira ya kifo chake. Wakati huohuo, jamaa wanataka haki itendeke. Binamu yake Samuel Odhiambo alitaka uchunguzi ufanywe kwa uwazi na kuonya watu dhidi ya kuchangisha fedha kwa jina la marehemu bila idhini ya familia. Licha ya madai yaliyomhusisha na siasa chafu, familia na marafiki walimtetea Ouma wakisema alikuwa mchapakazi, mkarimu na tegemeo kuu la ukoo wake.
