ALIYEKUWA gavana wa Nairobi, Mike Sonko amepoteza kesi Sh385 milioni za ushuru kwenye mvutano unaohusu Sh1.4 bilioni zilizowekwa katika akaunti zake 11 za benki kati ya 2013 na 2019, alipohudumu kama seneta na gavana wa Nairobi. Korti ya kutatua mizozo kuhusu ushuru ilibaini kuwa Sonko hakutoa ushahidi wa kutosha kuondoa tathmini ya Mamlaka ya Kukusanya Ushuru (KRA), kulingana na uchunguzi kuhusu pesa zilizowekwa akaunti hiyo. "Amefeli kutekeleza mzigo wa ushahidi aliotwikwa chini ya Sheria kuhusu Korti ya Rufaa kuhusu Ushuru. Sonko alikata rufaa Januari 2025, akipinga namna ambavyo KRA ilishughulikia ununuzi na matumizi ya biashara yake. Alihoji kuwa KRA ilikataza kwa njia isiyofaa ununuzi na matumizi ya biashara, ikapuuza stakabadhi za kuthibitisha, vyeti vya wauzaji bidhaa, na kukosa kutoa gharama halal zilizotokea wakati wa kuzalisha mapato yame. KRA ilieleza korti kwamba Sonko aliendesha akaunti 11 za benki katika kipindi hicho kutoka benki za Equity, KCB, Diamond Trust na Co-operative Bank.
