RAIS William Ruto amemshambulia tena mtangulizi wake, Rais mstaafu Uhuru Kenyatta, akimlaumu kwa kusaliti makubaliano ya kisiasa waliyofikia walipokuwa washirika na sasa kufadhili siasa za upinzani dhidi ya serikali yake. Dkt Ruto alisema yeye na Bw Kenyatta walikubaliana kuwa Rais huyo wa zamani angeongoza kwa miaka 10 kabla ya kumkabidhi yeye uongozi wa nchi kwa miaka mingine 10. Hata hivyo, alidai Bw Kenyatta alipuuza makubaliano hayo ulipofika wakati wake wa kugombea urais na badala yake akamuunga mkono aliyekuwa kiongozi wa ODM Raila Odinga katika uchaguzi wa 2022. "Hukutimiza. Badala yake, ulifanya kazi dhidi yangu," Rais alisema alipokuwa akizungumza Sindo. Kenya Kwanza yazidisha presha kwa Natembeya
MUUNGANO wa Kenya Kwanza unaoongozwa na Rais William Ruto, umeanzisha kampeni kali ya kisiasa ya kuteka Kaunti ya Trans Nzoia kutoka kwa upinzani, hatua inayoongeza presha kwa Gavana George Natembeya huku makundi hasimu yakipambana kudhibiti kaunti hiyo kuelekea uchaguzi mkuu wa mwaka 2027. Spika wa Bunge la Kitaifa, Moses Wetang'ula na msaidizi wa karibu wa Rais, Farouk Kibet, wamefika Kaunti hiyo kueneza ujumbe wa mafanikio ya serikali na wakati huohuo kuunga mkono wanaotajwa kuwa wapinzani wa gavana huyo. Tofauti na mwaka 2022 aliposhinda kwa kishindo, Bw Natembeya sasa anakabiliwa na mazingira mapya ya kisiasa. Gavana huyo wa chama cha DAP-K ametofautiana na kiongozi wa chama hicho, Eugene Wamalwa, na ameashiria kuondoka kwake. Tangu wakati huo amekuwa karibu na mrengo wa upinzani wa Linda Mwananchi unaohusishwa na Seneta wa Nairobi, Bw Edwin Sifuna. "Ninatafuta muhula wa pili kwa sababu bado nataka kukamilisha nilichoanzisha kubadilisha kaunti hii," amesema mara kadhaa kwenye majukwaa yake ya kisiasa. Mabadiliko hayo ya kisiasa yametoa nafasi kwa Kenya Kwanza kuimarisha ushawishi wake Magharibi mwa Kenya na kutafuta mgombea mwenye uwezo wa kumpa changamoto gavana huyo. Wiki iliyopita, Mabw Wetang'ula na Kibet walizuru kaunti hiyo katika shughuli za kuwawezesha wanawake na waendesha bodaboda. Shughuli hizo ziliashiria ujumbe mmoja wa kisiasa: Kenya Kwanza inataka kuteka Trans Nzoia mwaka 2027. Katika mikutano hiyo, Bw Wetang'ula alimtangaza Balozi wa Kenya katika UN-Habitat, Bi Susan Nakhumicha, kama mgombea anayefaa kumpinga Bw Natembeya, huku Bw Kibet akimuunga mkono Mbunge wa Kiminini, Bw Maurice Kakai Bisau. Kuibuka kwa Bi Nakhumicha kumepatia siasa za ugavana sura mpya. Mnamo Juni 2026, Bw Wetang'ula alimuidhinisha waziwazi kuwania ugavana na kuwataka wanasiasa wengine wa Kenya Kwanza kumuunga mkono. "Nimewasiliana na wakazi wa wadi zote 25 na wengi wanatamani mabadiliko. Wanahisi wamevunjwa moyo na uongozi wa sasa na ninafahamu jinsi ya kuokoa kaunti hii nikichaguliwa gavana," amesema Bi Nakhumicha. Hata hivyo, chama cha UDA kinakabiliwa na changamoto ya ndani kwa kuwa viongozi kadhaa wanawania tiketi hiyo. Mbali na Bi Nakhumicha, wanaowania ni Bw Maurice Bisau, aliyekuwa Mbunge wa Kiminini, Dkt Chris Wamalwa, na Bw Isaac Kogo. "Gavana wa sasa ameshindwa kuleta maendeleo. Amejikita zaidi katika kujenga taswira yake ya kisiasa badala ya kutimiza wajibu wake," amesema Bw Bisau. Kwa upande wake, Dkt Wamalwa amesema: "Kaunti yetu imebaki nyuma kimaendeleo kutokana na uongozi mbovu. Rekodi yangu ya maendeleo tangu nikiwa Mbunge wa Kiminini inajieleza yenyewe." Wakati huo huo, maendeleo yameibuka kuwa silaha kuu ya kisiasa. Viongozi wa Kenya Kwanza wanajivunia mradi wa nyumba za bei nafuu wa Sh15 bilioni, zaidi ya kilomita 300 za barabara za lami, masoko ya kisasa na mipango ya kuboresha Hospitali ya Kaunti ya Kitale kwa Sh1 bilioni. "Tunahakikisha hakuna eneo linaloachwa nyuma kimaendeleo, na hatutaacha kaunti hii isimamiwe vibaya," alisema Bw Wetang'ula mjini Endebess. Ikiwa na wapiga kura karibu 400,000 waliosajiliwa, Trans Nzoia imekuwa muhimu kwa pande zote mbili. Kwa Rais Ruto, kushinda katika kaunti hiyo kutaimarisha nafasi yake ya kuchaguliwa tena. Kwa Bw Natembeya, kushinda muhula wa pili kutathibitisha kuwa ushawishi wake wa kisiasa umeendelea licha ya kutengana na DAP-K.
